The CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) is proud to announce that journalist Tanzina Vega will be joining the School’s Office of Marketing and Communications as a contributing writer for 2025. Vega currently writes for the Boston Globe Opinion section, where her work focuses on economic and social inequality.

Vega comes to CUNY SPS after two decades as a reporter, producer, and host for news organizations including The Boston Globe, The New York Times and New York Public Radio, where she hosted The Takeaway, a national news show.

In addition to journalism, Vega has partnered with universities, nonprofits, and private sector companies to create impactful newsletters, podcasts, and branded content. She has also worked closely with trade publications and startups, helping them develop content strategies that boost engagement and drive results.

Vega is also an educator with extensive experience teaching pre-college students, graduate students, and other adult learners in the United States and abroad. She has developed curricula in English as a Second Language and journalism for students at Princeton University, New York University, The School of The New York Times, and Gyeongsang National University in South Korea and The University of Navarra IESE in Spain.

“We are delighted to welcome Tanzina to the Marketing and Communications team, where she will be developing stories that showcase our remarkable community members, as well as the many exciting news and projects going on at CUNY SPS,” said Chief Marketing Officer Prerna Dar. “Her remarkable track record in journalism and her ability to tell compelling, impactful stories align perfectly with our own mission. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Tanzina on board!”

“I’m excited to join the CUNY School of Professional Studies in their efforts to shine a light on their dynamic student body and on the benefits of pursuing continuing education for non-traditional students,” said Vega. “My parents and I are graduates of the CUNY system and have always valued public education.”

Vega was a part of the pioneering class of the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY and graduated with honors in 2008.

In her new role at CUNY SPS, Vega will develop both short and long-form articles about the School’s students, alumni, faculty, and staff, as well as its current projects and initiatives, for the SPS website, blog, and print publications.
