MS in Health Information Management Earns CAHIIM Accreditation
The CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) is proud to announce that the School’s Master of Science in Health Information Management (MSHIM) online degree program has received accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
"We are excited to have successfully completed the review process since the CAHIIM accreditation assures our students that our program has a robust curriculum,” said Dr. Memory Ndanga, academic director of the Health Information Management and Health Services Administration programs at CUNY SPS. “Now that we are accredited, our MSHIM graduates qualify to sit for the RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) certification exam offered through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)."
CAHIIM, a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, accredits associate and baccalaureate degree programs in health information management, and masters’ degree programs in the health informatics and health information management professions in the United States and Puerto Rico.
According to the CAHIM website, programs with this accreditation have voluntarily undergone a rigorous review process by the nonprofit and have been determined to meet or exceed the standards set by their Board of Directors.
Launched in 2021, the CUNY SPS MSHIM program was designed to meet healthcare facilities’ growing need for highly qualified HIM professionals. Developed based on standards set by CAHIIM—and offering one of the lowest graduate tuition rates of any online graduate HIM program in the country—the program prepares individuals to become information management professionals who can work proficiently with clinicians and health services administrators to develop clear and effective health information strategies for their healthcare organizations, as well as carry out these strategies using a variety of applications.
With this accreditation, the CUNY SPS MSHIM program joins the School’s BS in Health Information Management counterpart in CAHIIM recognition. The BSHIM program has been accredited by CAHIIM as of 2015.
