Jitka Nelb Sinecka is an Adjunct Professor at the CUNY School of Professional Studies. She has been teaching undergraduate courses on Disability and Embodiment every semester since the foundation of the BA in Disability Studies program in 2012. Besides the introductory Embodiment course, she has taught courses on Teaching Strategies and Behavior Supports as well as Assessment with a focus on individuals with autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Nelb Sinecka received two Master’s degrees from Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, one in Anthropology and the other in Public and Social Policy. Her focus has always been on people with disabilities since she comes from a Deaf family. Immediately after her studies she was awarded the Fulbright scholarship to travel and study in the United States. She finished her Doctoral degree in Disability Studies at Syracuse University, NY, in 2009 and has been teaching online or in person since then. She added a teaching license in Special Education K - 21 to her degrees, which enabled her to work with severe needs students at elementary and middle school levels as a special education teacher since working with children and young adults with disabilities has been her passion. Dr Nelb Sinecka continues to teach college courses online at various universities in the US (e.g. Syracuse University, SUNY, CUNY, Colorado Mesa University) as well as in the Czech Republic and Germany, in addition to supervising student teachers in their first placements in schools.
Additionally, Jitka Nelb Sinecka loves to spend time outdoors. Among the many outdoor activities that she engages in with her family are rock climbing, hiking, cross country and downhill skiing, ice skating, biking, or swimming. She loves to teach her two children how to be creative and artistic, how to cook and bake, knit and sew, be a good gardener, and have a good relationship to nature.
