Jeannette Corey began her career in early childhood education as an undergraduate at Mills College in Oakland, California where she was an assistant teacher at the college’s infant-toddler early learning center. Working with those very young children inspired her to pursue a master’s degree in childhood education at Teachers College, Columbia University where she focused on infant, toddler and preschool education.
Jeannette has over thirty years of experience leading early childhood programs. She founded Head Start programs in the Bronx as the Phipps’ Community Development Corporation’s Assistant Executive Director and provided support to the YMCA of Greater New York’s ten early childhood programs which included Universal Pre-K programs.
In 2015 Jeannette took a position at Bank Street College of Education where she currently serves as the Director of the Bank Street Family Center/Home & Community Based Programs where she oversees a special education integrated childcare center, a Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) program, a preschool evaluation site and an array of grown-up and child playgroups serving special needs children.
Jeannette has BA in Sociology from Mills College in Oakland, California, an MA in Childhood Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and an Ed.M. – Advanced in Leadership for Educational Change from Bank Street College of Education. Jeannette holds a New York State permanent teaching license Birth – Grade 6 and New York State professional School Building Leader (SBL) certification.
