Change Warriors Volunteering Guidelines

Change Warriors participants, are expected to commit to volunteering as a selfless act of giving back. Your community service should be unpaid and focused on supporting causes with organizations that promote:

Disaster Relief

Offering support in disaster-stricken areas by providing emergency aid, medical care, food, and shelter. Examples of such services include constructing homes for disaster victims or volunteering at emergency shelters.

Education

Enhancing knowledge and skills through teaching and awareness efforts. Examples include tutoring, mentoring, adult literacy programs, GED preparation, or vocational training.

Environmental Conservation

Addressing ecological imbalances and advocating for restorative solutions. Examples tree planting, wildlife monitoring, habitat restoration, local clean-up efforts for beaches, parks, and urban areas.

Hunger and Homelessness

Activities include serving meals at shelters and food banks, organizing food drives, and providing resources for the homeless.

Social Justice

Participating in campaigns and movements to raise awareness about social issues and promote policy change. Examples include volunteering at homeless shelters or assisting at LGBT community centers.

Pro Bono Services

Professional services offered voluntarily and without payment as a public service. Examples include offering free tax preparation, legal, and financial services.

An activity cannot be considered as volunteering if you receive any form of compensation, such as payment, gifts, or academic credit. Additionally, unpaid internships and participation in student clubs, Student Association, Governing Council, or the Urban Male Scholars program do not qualify as volunteer service. If you're uncertain whether an activity qualifies as volunteering, please contact Elizabeth Navarro, Student Life College Assistant, at elizabeth.navarro@cuny.edu.
