CUNY SPS Honors Faculty and Staff Milestone Anniversaries
The CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) recognized the milestone anniversaries of 27 faculty and staff in an inaugural Years of Service Awards ceremony held on September 18, 2024.
The in-person event, which featured remarks by CUNY SPS Dean Dr. Lisa R. Braverman and a video message from CUNY Chancellor Félix Matos Rodríguez, honored those faculty and staff who attained their milestone anniversary of either five, ten, fifteen, or twenty years in 2023.
Following introductory remarks by CUNY SPS Human Resources Executive Director Frances Correa, Dean Braverman welcomed the honorees. In her address, she told the group that the School’s accomplishments would not have been possible without the dedication of long-time CUNY SPS faculty and staff.
“Your service tells a story of passion, dedication, and commitment. You’ve seen the challenges and the hard work that comes with creating an environment where students succeed, and you’ve continued over the years to show up with the same energy and determination,” Dean Braverman said. “And I’m extremely pleased to note that your efforts have paid off. To mention one example, over the past year we’ve seen the highest enrollment ever at CUNY SPS, a roughly 10 percent increase in students...None of this would be possible without the hard work of employees like you.”
In a separate video presentation, Dr. Matos Rodríguez thanked the CUNY SPS faculty and staff honorees for their service both to the School and the University.
“There is no better illustration of CUNY’s mission of opening the doors of education and opportunity to people of all backgrounds, no matter where they are in their lives [than CUNY SPS],” he noted. He also underlined the importance of people in the School’s success, saying, “We couldn’t boast that CUNY has built one of the most highly regarded online education programs in the country without the team that you’ve built.”
At the close of the ceremony, honorees were presented with an award and a personalized letter from Dean Braverman. A vote of thanks was offered by Kimesha Johnson, Human Resources Benefits Manager, who gave special acknowledgements to the awardees and all the stakeholders that contributed to making the inaugural event a success.
The Years of Service Awards ceremony will be held on an annual basis, ensuring that employees feel honored and appreciated for their contribution to CUNY SPS and CUNY as a whole.
